St. Benedict Welcomes the Disciples Maurus and Placidus

			1618
Church of Santa Giustina, Padua, Italy

Placidus (the child in the red jacket) is shown as "a boy of tender years," as St. Gregory describes him in his Dialogues. Maurus, though also a child, is a bit older. The palm branch held by the angel in the sky refers to the martyrdom that St. Placidus will suffer many years later.
